Dust extraction Cyclones

Cyclones and pre-separators are used in industrial environments to separate dust or gas particles from air or gas streams. In combination with other dust extraction equipment, cyclones and pre-separators contribute to optimal operation of industrial air extraction systems. They therefore play a crucial role in achieving a clean, healthy and safe working environment.

Our cyclone installation in action

ATEX
Food industry

Depending on the application and the material to be separated, you can use the cyclone on its own or as a pre-separator in combination with one of our Dustmasters. Our cyclones offer a wide choice of sizes, variants and materials for air volumes up to 30,000m³/h.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
00
When is a cyclone relevant within my dust extraction installation?

A cyclone is relevant when dust or material particles can be separated from the airflow before the main filtration.

During the baseline assessment, Kiekens assesses the particle size, material behaviour, air volume, and dust load. Based on this, we determine whether pre-separation can relieve the overall system.

00
Can a Kiekens cyclone be used standalone?

Yes. Depending on the application, a cyclone can be used standalone or as a pre-separator for, for example, a Dustmaster.

The function within the overall system determines the version and dimensioning.

00
What does a cyclone offer as a pre-separator?

A cyclone can remove suitable particles from the airflow before they reach the main filter.

This means the filter is subjected to less load. This can reduce the need for cleaning and contribute to more stable performance of the overall installation.

00
For which air volumes are Kiekens cyclones available?

Kiekens offers cyclones in various sizes, variants, and materials for air volumes up to approximately 30,000 m³/h.

The correct dimensioning is linked to the desired separation and pressure drop. A larger cyclone is therefore not automatically a better cyclone.

00
How does Kiekens determine the correct size of a cyclone?

We look at, among other things, air volume, particle size, specific weight, and the behaviour of the material.

During the baseline assessment, we gather this process data. Our engineers then translate it into a suitable cyclone configuration.

00
Is a cyclone suitable for fine dust?

A cyclone can effectively pre-separate certain dust particles, but is not automatically a replacement for fine filtration.

For very fine or health-critical particles, additional filtration may be necessary. That's why Kiekens designs the cyclone and main filter as connected components.

00
Can a cyclone be used in an ATEX environment?

For combustible dust, the entire system must be assessed for explosion risk.

Zone classification, ignition sources, material choice, and any explosion protection measures are taken into account during the baseline assessment. The cyclone is one component of the safety assessment.

00
What influence does a cyclone have on the pressure drop of my system?

A cyclone adds resistance to the air-technical system.

At the same time, good pre-separation can limit the load on subsequent filters. Kiekens therefore calculates the total pressure balance of fan, cyclone, ducting, and filtration.

00
Can a cyclone be adapted to my material or process?

Yes. There is a choice of various dimensions, variants, and materials. The version depends, among other things, on wear, corrosion, temperature, and dust properties. For deviating processes, Kiekens can engineer the cyclone to customer specifications.

00
How do I know whether my existing installation would benefit from a cyclone?

During a baseline assessment, Kiekens assesses the current dust load, filter contamination, maintenance frequency, and air-technical performance.

When pre-separation can relieve the main filters or improve material discharge, we include a cyclone in the recommendation.
